RealScreen – BBC2 orders “Great British Garden Revival”

UK net BBC2 has commissioned Outline Productions to make a series that brings together Britain’s biggest TV gardening talent in a bid to inspire viewers to save the UK’s garden heritage.

Great British Garden Revival (10 x 60-minutes) will see 14 of Britain’s top TV gardeners – including Monty Don, Carol Klein, Joe Swift, Rachel de Thame, Chris Beardshaw, Alys Fowler and James Wong – teaming up.

In each episode, two presenters will focus on an endangered aspect of gardens which they feel passionately about, and offer advice to viewers on how they can restore and look after their gardens.

The series was developed by Outline Productions’ head of development Ross McCarthy and creative director Helen Veale.

Lindsay Bradbury, the commissioning editor for BBC Daytime who ordered the series, said: “Gardening is one of Britain’s boom areas – and this format fuses together top tips, nostalgia and an unparalleled team of passionate presenters.”

Bridget Boseley, executive producer for Outline Productions, added: “Getting so many talented presenters involved to encourage viewers to re-engage with their gardens and our horticultural heritage demonstrates how passionately they feel about this issue and our ambition for the scale of this series.”

The series will transmit this winter, and is being sold at MIPCOM by Hat Trick International.
