UK-based production outfit Outline Productions and Modern Times Group-owned distributor DRG have formed a content partnership to create international formats.
DRG aims to help expand Outline’s business by contributing to a development fund to invest in new content and formats for both the UK and abroad.
The distributor will accordingly become the exclusive seller of Outline’s new finished programmes and formats alongside selected titles from the London-based outfit’s back catalogue.
The agreement comes after Channel 4 in the UK commissioned the factual entertainment prodco to produce a local version of DRG’s Norwegian celebrity biography format Born On.
DRG said it will take an advisory role to offer direction as to what content lends itself to international development, while Outline will inform the distributor about UK programming.
Outline hopes the deal provides the scale and resources to position it for the next stage of its development, and in particular US growth.
DRG has previously distributed a number of Outline’s shows and formats, including Jo Frost: Extreme Parental Guidance.
“It is essential that as the market consolidates we embrace new models and ways of working to ensure continued access to the very best pipeline of content,” said Richard Halliwell, chief operating officer at DRG.
Scandinavian broadcast giant Modern Times Group acquired DRG for £15m (US$23.4m) in June 2013 and it is now part of the Nice Entertainment Group.
