About Helen Veale:
Helen Veale set up Outline in 1999 with Laura Mansfield and currently shares the role of Managing Director with Laura. Helen also acts as Creative Director across a range of Outline’s shows including the Autumn 2007 Channel 4 factual entertainment event “Dumped”. This is an ambitious series which sees eleven unsuspecting members of the British public stranded on one of the biggest rubbish dumps in Britain for three weeks and aims to tackle environmental issues in a boldly entertaining way
This mixture of strong factual narratives and real entertainment value is reflected across the range of other series that Helen has developed and produced at Outline, from her first commission for the company 1 x 60 spoof documentary, The Earl for Channel 4, to next year’s The Big Experiment, a landmark new series for Discovery Europe which aims to use the shock and awe of huge scale science experiments to get a bunch of disaffected and disadvantaged kids in Britain turned on to learning.
Helen began working in television in 1992 and was initially involved in current affairs and journalistic factual programming. In 1995 she joined factual specialist Juniper where she produced and directed The Goldring Audit (Channel 4), The Baby Business (BBC2) and The Argument (BBC1). Helen’s aim in setting up Outline was to engage audiences who might not come to traditional factual TV with programmes that combined strong story telling with an entertainment ethos, and teamed up with Laura who shared that vision and had a great track record in entertainment.
