Born On The Same Day – The Sunday Times Weekend Magazine, 26th June

One can only hope that this series is recommissioned, its three episodes have formed a fascinating history of the past century, carefully positioning the better known subjects (Rannulph Fiennes, Twiggy and now Ricky Tomlinson) at the centre of each film in a manner that never undermined the life achievements of the others.

Tomlinson, Vic Young, an entrepreneur, and midwife Julia Allison, were born on September 26, 1939, were teenagers as rationing ended and became adults in the 1960s. Tomlinson is well known for his roles on television, but his early life as a political activist (originally with links to the National Front, later as a committed socialist) and prison inmate is fascinating.
